Its hard to take advice from an outsider. Even if that outsider is someone who loves your kid so much like an out-of-town parent. Sometimes a step-child is regularly involved with bad influences to where its so noticable that an out of town step- parent sees it, but to where the parent who lives with the child may be too close to understand the severity of the situation.
It may be easy to poo-poo the other parent, because you're the one doing the heavy lifting, but what happens when they ask the step-parent to step in, too? It could be painful, but remember that step probably wouldn't get involved if they didn't love and worry about your child. Everybody wants what's best for the child, so maybe its time to listen to that distant step-parent. |

TOTALLY AGREE! My sister-in-law is a perfect case-in-point. Her husband has children with 3 different women. She has one with him and one of her own living with them. He recently brought his teenage daughter into their home. She is keeping secrets and not allowing them access to her Internet social sites. My sister-in-law, who is this girl's step-mother, wants to step in to ensure that as long as this girl lives under her roof she is safe from predators. I think she is right and told her so. If something happens to this kids, God forbid, who do you think'll get the blame. Damn right the step-parents have a good vantage point (some of the time)
